Reading: Chang-o and The Moon

Using Explain Everything to share our learning

During the last week of Term 1 some children in our Kōwhiringa choice group chose to read Chang-o and The Moon with Miss Skinner.

This was a traditional Chinese tale that explains the story behind of the “goddess in the moon”.

They were challenged to retell this story by using our skills on explain everything to make it into a movie.

Check out Charlotte and Aeryn's awesome movie below!

  1. Hi Charlotte and Aeryn, we are from South Hornby School and are in Miss McLeod's writing group. We enjoyed listening to your story retell of Chang-o and The Moon, we haven't heard of that story before. We liked the way that you moved the characters around to match up with the story, this helped us to imagine the story in our head. We also liked how you used Explain Everything to record your voice to tell the story. Next time maybe you need to find a quieter space to record the story so that we can hear it properly because there was lots of distracting noise in the background, but well done!

    1. Hi South Hornby School
      Thank you for your comment.
We could try and find a quieter place to record next time.
Do you have any suggestions of good quiet places that we could go to?

  2. We really liked your story, it was excellent. We enjoyed the sound effects and thought it was funny which kept our interest. it was a good story and one we haven't heard before. We are interested to know if it was difficult for you to put the movie together as we think it is something we would like to try. We look forward to seeing more of your learning through out the year.

    1. Hi Guys
      Thank you for your comment.
Charlotte didn't find it tricky to make the movie. The hardest part was moving the characters. They used Explain Everything to make it.
We would be very interested if you were to make a movie to see it.
      Thanks

    1. Kia ora Jaydah,
Thank you for your comment. It took us two -three days to make this movie during our reading time. We took photos and cut our characters out from our books and we found some using labeled for reuse photos and background on the internet.
      Thanks,
