In week 7 the children in our Kōwhiringa and Pūwhare reading groups focused on how reading can inform different writing purposes.
The learners who chose to read about White-tailed Spiders or Killer Plants were challenged to write a persuasive piece of writing for or against their book topic.
While the learners who chose to read about Pen Pals or Emails were posed with the task to learn how to write an informal letter and then write their own letter to Lady Wigram Retirement Village asking if we could come and visit.
Another choice some of the learners chose to read about was Wheelchair Tennis where the children were challenged to recreate 4 square. They then had to write detailed instructions on how to play.
Finally, the learners who chose to read about Motorcross had form an opinion on whether they thought a push bike or a motorbike was better. The children then were challenged to convince Mrs Hefferman why there choice was the best one using labeled pictures and written facts.
All groups shared these during our Friday afternoon reading program, see photos below.
Have flick through the slides below and check out all the awesome work the children have done!
