Samoan Language Week: Rugby with a Jandal

This week one of the book choices was around a boy who moved from Samoa to New Zealand. He really enjoyed playing rugby.

The group had to do a Compare and Contrast Diagram on the things that were the same and different.

Take a look at their slides below

  1. Hi Kereru Learning Log, we liked that you compared the differences and similarities between rugby in New Zealand and Samoa. Your information taught us about what they wear and use in Samoa. We have some questions for you:
    - what do the fields look like? - Patrik
    - Why do they not wear t-shirts, what do they wear instead? - Akeilah
    - Have any of you played Samoan rugby before? - Sophia
    - Why do they use a jandal instead of a ball? - Eligh
    - What do they play on if they don't have any fields? - Mikayla

Perhaps next time, you could include some pictures to help us understand the differences a little bit more. From Miss McLeod's writing group at South Hornby.

    1. Hi South Hornby, thank you for your comment. They didn’t wear tops because it is too hot over there. None of us have played rugby in Samoa, but that would be cool. They don’t have a rugby ball so that is why they use a jandal. From Tyler in Kererū Learning Space.

  2. Talofa Kererū!

We think it's really good that you have been learning about comparing two things. We think that it must be really cool to play rugby in both countries. Some people in our class have never played rugby before so this was good information for them. Maybe you could make a video of you talking about your learning?
